Do It Yourself WordPress Web Site Design

Do It Yourself WordPress Web Site Design

To get a website designed can be a tedious and costly process. So if you want a website but don’t know where to start or if you simply don’t want the financial commitment of a full-on website design project. In this step-by-step do it yourself guide, we will walk you through the steps needed to get your website up and running.

So let’s get started:

1. Register A Domain Name

If you don’t have a domain name, research a good one and register it. At first sight, these days finding a good domain name may seem difficult. However, with a little bit of creativity and some research you can still buy a meaningful domain name. Be sure to choose your registrar wisely. We usually use Hostmonster.com because amongst other options you can buy domain names as add-ons to their hosting service.

2. Secure Web Hosting Service

Look for a hosting service, that is reliable, and reasonably priced. As we mentioned earlier our preference is Hostmonster. To make things easy you want to host your website on a system that offers:

  • cPanel – This is an easy to use dashboard, which provides easy access to the different necessary back-end areas.
  • Scripts that automatically setup the necessary files to run WordPress

Many hosting services including the one we are recommending offer a free primary domain name as long as you sign up with their service for a period of time, usually 12 months.

Here is an example of the hosting package:

They offer longer-term web hosting plans as well, but if you are only starting out we recommend that you keep investment cost at a minimum. Just pick-up the 12 month hosting plan for now, and, if you don’t have a domain name get one registered for free.

3. Install WordPress

  • Log in your account
  • Go to the cPanel
  • Find the WordPress icon under Simple Script installation and click on it

The following image is an example. Your hosting account if you are not using hostmonster should have something similar.
